The PSerpent grew out of an exercise. I took a workshop with Julie Hedges, who makes wonderful PS jewellery. One of her bracelet structures curves naturally in both planes, and this gives it a degree of rigidity. I wondered what would happen i f I made it long enough to coil up, then turned it through a right angle.
When I saw what happened, I started another piece, this time working in the reverse direction. I shaped a head (the trickiest part), continued down the neck, turned the corner, and then kept braiding to form the coiled body. When I ran out of cord, I tied it off and cut it short, forming the tail. Making it in tightly plied linen enhanced the natural stiffness of the structure.
